The Sacred Gift of Intimacy

“Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.” – Romans 13:13

When God created intimacy, He wasn’t inventing something shameful—He was revealing something sacred. Before sin entered the world, Adam and Eve stood before one another without shame, fully known and fully loved. That’s God’s design for intimacy: not something to exploit or conceal, but something to express covenant love, purity, and trust.

The world has stripped intimacy of its holiness, turning what God made beautiful into something broken. But the gospel restores what sin distorts. In marriage, intimacy becomes a living picture of the gospel—two people giving wholly of themselves in covenant faithfulness. It’s not about physical pleasure alone but about spiritual reflection. The marriage bed becomes a temple of worship where husband and wife honor God by loving each other with purity, humility, and devotion.

When intimacy is separated from covenant, it loses its depth and brings destruction. But within marriage, it thrives—protected by trust, fueled by grace, and blessed by God. This is why Scripture calls us to keep the marriage bed undefiled. Purity isn’t prudishness; it’s protection. It safeguards the joy God intended and keeps the sacred from becoming common.

Whether you’re single or married, God calls you to reclaim His view of intimacy. To reject shame where the world has mocked holiness. To treat what He designed not as casual, but as consecrated. In doing so, you reflect the purity and passion of divine love itself.

Reflection Question
How would your view of intimacy change if you saw it not as physical gratification, but as a sacred act of worship that reflects God’s holiness and covenant love?

Intimacy was never meant to be hidden in shame or flaunted in sin. It was meant to be celebrated in covenant—a sacred reflection of God’s own faithfulness.

Prayer
Father, thank You for designing intimacy as something holy and good. Help me to honor You with my body, my mind, and my relationships. Where I’ve believed lies about love and desire, replace them with truth. Teach me to see intimacy as a sacred reflection of Your love, not a substitute for it. Amen.
