Peace Begins Where Pretending Ends

“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is a refuge for us.” - Psalm 62:8

One of the quiet enemies of peace is pretending. We learn how to appear steady even when everything inside us feels scattered. We learn how to say the right words while hiding the weight we are actually carrying. Over time, we mistake composure for faith and silence for strength.

But Scripture never calls us to pretend. It calls us to pour out our hearts.
God already knows what you are carrying. He sees the anxiety that spikes when the house goes quiet. He knows the thoughts that return late at night. He is not surprised by your fear, disappointment, or exhaustion. What disrupts peace is not honesty with God. What disrupts peace is hiding from the One who already sees.

Peace begins to take shape when we stop managing appearances and start bringing reality into God’s presence. When we name what hurts. When we admit what feels out of control. When we stop negotiating with fear and instead lay it before the Lord.

This kind of honesty is not weakness. It is trust. It is an act of worship that says God is safe enough to hear the truth. And when we pour out what we have been holding in, we discover that God does not meet us with correction first. He meets us with refuge.

Peace does not come from convincing ourselves everything is fine. It comes from trusting God with what is not.

Reflection Question
What have you been minimizing, ignoring, or pretending is fine that God is inviting you to bring honestly into His presence?

Peace grows when we stop hiding our pain and start trusting God with it.

Prayer
Father, I am tired of pretending. I bring You what I have been carrying but have been afraid to name. You already see it, yet You invite me to trust You with it. Help me believe You are my refuge, not my judge. Meet me with Your peace as I pour out my heart before You. Amen.
