Joy Grows Where Peace with God Is Restored
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” - Romans 5:1
It is easy to want peace from God without wanting peace with God. We ask Him to calm the chaos, ease the anxiety, smooth the path, and fix what feels broken. But Scripture presses deeper. Before peace can touch our circumstances, it must address our standing.
The angels’ announcement in Luke does not promise a trouble-free world. It proclaims that peace has entered the world because God has acted to restore what sin fractured. The joy of Christmas rests on this truth: Jesus came to reconcile us to God.
Sin does not merely disrupt our happiness. It severs relationship. It leaves us restless even when life seems full. That is why joy can feel so fragile when it is built on circumstances. Comfort cannot heal separation. Only reconciliation can.
Peace with God changes everything. It anchors joy in something unshakable. When our relationship with God is restored through Christ, joy no longer rises and falls with outcomes. It becomes a settled gladness rooted in grace, not performance.
This peace is costly. The manger points forward to the cross, where Jesus bore what separated us from God so we could be brought near. Joy grows where that peace is received, not earned.
Reflection Question
Are you seeking peace from God to improve your life, or peace with God to restore your heart?
Lasting joy is rooted in peace with God, not in relief from life’s pressures.
Prayer
Father, I confess that I often want You to fix my life without surrendering my heart. Thank You for sending Jesus to restore peace between us. Help me receive the joy that flows from being reconciled to You. Let my joy be anchored in grace, not in circumstances. Amen.
