He is Worthy of You
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.” - Romans 12:1 (CSB)
We started this week with one question: Is God worthy?
And after everything we have seen, the answer is clear. Yes. He is worthy.
He is worthy because He is Creator. He is worthy because He is King. He is worthy because He holds the depths of the earth in His hand and the mountain peaks belong to Him. He is worthy because He made us. He is worthy because He shepherds His people. He is worthy because when we wandered, the Good Shepherd came looking for us. He is worthy because Jesus laid down His life for the sheep. He is worthy because the grave could not hold Him. Our Shepherd lives.
So now the question changes. If God is worthy, what does that require from us?
Romans 12 gives us the answer. "Present your bodies as a living sacrifice." Paul calls that "your true worship."
Worship has now moved completely outside the category of music. There is no stage in that verse. No microphone. No worship set. No favorite song. Paul is talking about your body. Your actual life. Your decisions. Your habits. Your time. Your money. Your relationships. Your plans. Your future. Your Monday morning. Your Tuesday afternoon. The life you live when nobody is singing.
That is where worship goes.
And this is where everything we have talked about this week lands.
Because it is possible to agree that God is worthy while still living as though our lives belong to us. We can sing: "You are worthy." Then spend the rest of the week saying with our decisions: "My time belongs to me." "My money belongs to me." "My body belongs to me." "My future belongs to me." "My relationships belong to me." "My plans belong to me."
And eventually we have to ask whether our lives agree with the worship coming out of our mouths.
That is not meant to crush you. It is meant to wake you up.
Because Romans 12 does not begin with sacrifice. It begins with mercy. "Therefore... in view of the mercies of God..."
That phrase matters. Paul is saying: before you think about what you are offering God, look at what God has already done for you. Look at mercy. Look at grace. Look at Christ. Look at the cross. Look at forgiveness. Look at adoption. Look at the Shepherd who came after wandering sheep.
Then respond.
Christian obedience is not an attempt to purchase God's love. It is the response of someone who has already received mercy. You do not present your life to God so He will rescue you. You present your life because Christ has rescued you.
That is worship.
And maybe that is where some of us have gotten things backward. We hear surrender and immediately think about everything God might take from us. What if He changes my plans? What if obedience costs me something? What if following Him takes me somewhere uncomfortable? What if He asks me to release something I want?
But look again at the One asking for your life. This is the Shepherd who gave His life for you. This is the King who wore a crown of thorns. This is the Savior who bore your judgment. This is the One who rose from the grave and calls you His.
You are not placing your life into untrustworthy hands. You are placing it into scarred hands. Hands that already proved how far His love would go.
So what would it look like to actually live as a worshiper?
Maybe worship looks like getting out of bed and opening Scripture before reaching for your phone because you want God's voice shaping your heart before the world gets your attention.
Maybe worship looks like telling the truth when lying would make your life easier.
Maybe worship looks like forgiving someone who hurt you because the mercy you received in Christ is beginning to reshape the mercy you give.
Maybe worship looks like generosity when your instinct is to hold tighter.
Maybe worship looks like purity when compromise would be easier.
Maybe worship looks like saying no to something your flesh wants because you know your body belongs to Christ.
Maybe worship looks like serving somebody who cannot repay you.
Maybe worship looks like staying faithful in a season where you do not feel much emotionally.
Maybe worship is praying, "Father, I do not understand what You are doing, but I trust You."
That is a living sacrifice.
The word "living" matters because this is ongoing. You do not surrender once and graduate from surrender. You wake up tomorrow and offer yourself again. Then the next day. And the next.
Because old desires keep returning. Control tries to climb back onto the throne. Fear starts whispering again. Approval starts pulling at you. Comfort begins calling.
And worship says: "No. I belong to Someone." "He is my God." "I am part of His pasture." "I am under His care." "My Shepherd gave His life for me." "So today, my life belongs to Him."
And here is where I want you to slow down.
Do not finish this devotional with a vague promise to "worship God more." That is too easy.
Make it specific. Ask: What does worshipful obedience look like in my actual life today?
Maybe there is one conversation you need to have. One habit you need to stop feeding. One person you need to forgive. One area where you need accountability. One decision where you already know the right thing and have been delaying it. One part of your schedule that needs to be reordered. One fear you need to stop allowing to make your decisions.
Name it.
Then ask for Spirit-given power. "Holy Spirit, give me power to obey here." Specific prayer. Specific dependence. Specific obedience.
Because the goal of this week was never to make you think more deeply about worship and then move on. The goal is transformation.
God is worthy of more than a few minutes of singing. He is worthy of your attention. Your affection. Your allegiance. Your obedience. Your surrender. Your whole life.
And the beautiful thing is this: You are not offering yourself to earn a place with Him. In Christ, you have been brought home. The Shepherd has gathered you. The King has rescued you. Mercy has been given. Grace has been poured out.
Now worship becomes the response.
So sing. Give thanks. Bow down. Follow. Obey. Surrender.
When Sunday comes, worship Him with your voice. When Monday comes, worship Him with your decisions. When the week gets hard, worship Him with your trust. When temptation comes, worship Him with obedience. When blessing comes, worship Him with gratitude. When you do not understand, worship Him by staying close to the Shepherd.
Because the question has been answered.
Is God worthy?
Look at creation. Look at the cross. Look at the empty tomb.
Yes. He is worthy. And He is worthy of you.

What is one specific area of your life where God is calling you to move from singing about surrender to actually practicing it, and what step of obedience will you take today?
God is worthy of more than a song. He is worthy of your whole life.

Father, You are worthy. You are my Creator, my King, my Shepherd, and my Savior. Thank You for the mercy You have shown me through Christ. Thank You that Jesus gave His life to bring wandering people like me home. I do not want my worship to end when the music stops. Show me where my life is still resisting You. Holy Spirit, give me specific power to obey You today. Take my time, my plans, my relationships, my decisions, my future, and every part of who I am. Teach me to live as someone who belongs to You. Let my whole life become a response to Your mercy. You are God. I am Yours. And You are worthy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
