Eternal Life Starts Now

Friday (3/14/25)

Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him. This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent —Jesus Christ. (John 17:1-3)

Devotional: We tend to think of eternal life as something that begins when we die. But Jesus flips that thinking upside down: eternal life is knowing God, right now. It’s not some distant reality we only experience when we take our last breath; it’s something that is fully available to us today, right in this moment.

You see, Jesus didn’t just come to give us a ticket to heaven. He came to invite us into real, transformative relationship with the living God. Christianity isn’t just about holding on until we die or waiting for some future moment. It’s about living deeply with God right now. It’s about experiencing the weight of His love, His power, His presence in every single moment of your life.

So, let me ask you this: Are you living as if eternal life has already begun? Or are you living like the best part of your life is still far off, just out of reach? Because, friends, Jesus is inviting you into that relationship right now. Not tomorrow. Not when you’re “more ready.” But right now, today.

That means every moment is an opportunity to walk in His presence. In your home. At your job. When you’re doing laundry or working through a hard conversation. When you’re dealing with your kids or battling through frustration in traffic. Every moment can be an opportunity to know Him more.

You’re not waiting for heaven to begin living this eternal life, eternal life is for now. So today, let it shape how you live. Practice worshipping right where you are. Serve others with joy and gladness, even in the most mundane tasks. Spend time in His presence, even when no one else is watching, and let that reality of eternal life breathe life into your day.

Eternal life isn’t just something we wait for, it’s the life we get to live right now.

Prayer: Lord, help me to see that eternal life isn’t just a future hope, but a present reality. Open my eyes to Your presence in my daily life and deepen my walk with You. Amen.
