The Invitation You Never Deserved

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” – Hebrews 4:16

Imagine being invited into a palace—a place so magnificent, so holy, that you instinctively know you don’t belong there. Your shoes are dirty, your clothes are torn, and every instinct in you says, “I shouldn’t be here.” Yet the King Himself meets you at the door, not to condemn, but to welcome you. He extends His hand, calls you by name, and ushers you in as His honored guest. That’s what happens every time you come before God in prayer.

You and I don’t have access to God because we earned it. We didn’t clean ourselves up enough, pray long enough, or behave perfectly enough to enter His presence. We were invited because Jesus made a way. The blood of Christ tore down the curtain that separated us from God and turned our unworthiness into welcome.

When you remember this truth, gratitude becomes awe. It’s no longer about forcing yourself to be thankful—it’s about being amazed that you’re even allowed to be here. Every prayer becomes an echo of wonder. Every moment in worship becomes an act of astonishment. We stop coming to God with entitlement, and start coming with expectancy—not that He owes us anything, but that His grace will always meet us where we are.

So today, when you pray, imagine that moment again. The King opens His throne room, not reluctantly, but joyfully. He’s not annoyed by your presence; He’s delighted by it. You’re not an intruder—you’re an invited guest, made righteous by His grace. Gratitude begins where wonder returns.

Reflection Question
How might your worship and prayer life change if you began every encounter with God by remembering that you’ve been invited—not because of what you’ve done, but because of who He is?

“Real gratitude begins the moment you realize you do not belong in God’s presence, and yet God welcomes you anyway.”

Prayer
Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. I know I don’t deserve this access, but I am amazed that You made a way for me through Jesus. Let my gratitude overflow into worship today. Replace my self-sufficiency with wonder, and my entitlement with awe. Amen.
