Our First Response, Not Last Resort
"Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, being double-minded and unstable in all his ways." - James 1:5-8
Life doesn’t come with a roadmap. Whether you’re trying to make a major life decision or navigate the stress of daily demands, you’ll inevitably hit moments where you just don’t know what to do. It’s in these moments that James reminds us of something powerful: wisdom is not earned—it’s given. Not reluctantly. Not conditionally. But generously, from a God who doesn’t find fault when we ask.
Still, many of us approach God as a last resort. We analyze. We overthink. We ask Google or friends. And only after all else fails do we turn to prayer. But wisdom isn’t just an emergency solution—it’s a daily invitation. God wants to be the first voice you seek, not the final one. And His wisdom isn’t vague or buried in riddles—it’s grounded in His character, revealed through His Word, and aligned with His Spirit.
Faith is the doorway to this wisdom. Not perfect faith—but sincere, trusting belief that God is good and wants to guide you. Doubt, when it becomes double-mindedness, keeps us stuck in indecision. God is calling you to ask boldly and trust fully.
Reflection Questions:
God's your first responder, not your last resort. Seek Him first.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that I often try to figure things out on my own. Help me break that cycle. Teach me to turn to You first. Remind me of Your generosity and Your nearness. I believe You want to guide me. Help me trust You more than I trust myself. Amen.

Reflection Questions:
- What current area of your life feels unclear or overwhelming?
- What has been your first response—prayer or problem-solving?
- What would it look like today to bring that need directly to God in faith?
