The Freedom of Honesty
“For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.” - Romans 8:22
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on Him, because He cares about you.” - 1 Peter 5:6–7
Let’s be real—most of us like the idea of surrender way more than the reality of it.
We pray things like, “God, I trust You,” but what we really mean is, “God, I trust You… as long as You do it my way.” We want God to guide the ship, but we won’t let go of the wheel.
And the result? Constant tension. Fear. Exhaustion. Because deep down, we know we’re not strong enough to carry all of it—but we still try.
But God isn’t asking us to “try harder.” He’s asking us to get honest. To stop faking peace and start actually trusting Him with what we’ve been hiding or gripping too tightly.
Surrender isn’t waving a white flag in defeat—it’s finally exhaling and letting God be God.
Here’s the beautiful part: when you bring your honest, humbled heart to Him, He doesn’t flinch. He doesn’t shame you. He draws close. He lifts the weight.
So today, take a beat. Look at the places where you’re holding on for dear life.
The stuff you’re white-knuckling. And hand it over. Not because you’re weak—but because He’s strong.
Reflection Questions
Prayer:
God, I’ve been holding onto things You never asked me to carry.
And I’m tired. So today, I open my hands. I give You control—even over the parts I’ve tried to hide. Help me trust that Your way is better. Thank You that I don’t have to perform for You. You just want my heart. Amen.

Reflection Questions
- Where have you been trying to stay in control instead of trusting God?
- What fears are keeping you from fully surrendering that part of your life?
Everything we receive from Christ—whether it’s rest, peace, or rescue—comes not from our strength, but from our surrender. Not from our efforts, but from our emptiness.
