Running in the Same Direction
“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” – Ruth 2:12
The secret to finding a godly relationship isn’t complicated—it’s directional. Scripture doesn’t tell us to chase people; it tells us to pursue Christ. And as we run after Him, something beautiful happens: those who are running in the same direction naturally come alongside us.
This is the principle Ruth lived out. She didn’t chase after Boaz; she pursued faithfulness to God in the everyday details of her life. She worked in the fields, stayed faithful to Naomi, and trusted in the God who provides. In that obedience, God brought Boaz into her story. The result wasn’t just romance—it was redemption. Their union became part of the lineage that led to Jesus Himself.
When you make Christ your first pursuit, relationships fall into their rightful place. You no longer need to look for someone to complete you, because you’re already whole in Him. You no longer fear being alone, because you walk daily in His presence. You no longer compromise truth for companionship, because your worth is anchored in the One who gave His life for you.
If you want a relationship that lasts, don’t look sideways—look upward. Run toward Jesus with everything you have. And if you look beside you and see someone running that same path, keep running together. That’s not just a romantic truth—it’s a spiritual one. All of our relationships, from friendships to marriage, flourish when they’re moving in the direction of Christ.
Reflection Question
Are you running toward Christ in every area of your life? What distractions or detours might be pulling your focus away from Him, and how can you realign your pace with His purpose?
Run toward Christ. And if you look up and beside you and there happens to be someone running the same direction, link arms and keep running.
Prayer
Jesus, help me to keep my eyes fixed on You. When I’m tempted to chase approval or affection elsewhere, remind me that You are my reward and my refuge. Surround me with people who run toward You with passion and purpose. May every relationship in my life move in Your direction and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
