Finding Rest
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30
Let’s just be honest—most of us are running on empty. You wake up tired. You go to bed tired. And somewhere in between, you’re juggling everyone’s expectations, trying to hold yourself together like duct tape on a sinking boat.
We live in a culture that applauds burnout. The more exhausted you are, the more valuable you must be—right? So we fake it. We smile. We say “I’m fine.” And deep down, we’re not.
But Jesus sees straight through the pretending. He’s not impressed by your performance or shocked by your exhaustion. He simply says: “Come to Me.”
This isn’t about crashing on the couch with Netflix. This is about the kind of rest that reaches deep into your soul. Not escape. Not numbing. Not ignoring the chaos. But actual relief—because you’re no longer carrying it alone.
Imagine this:
You standing there, holding every fear, every pressure, every hidden ache you’ve been dragging around... and Jesus looking at you with love in His eyes and saying, “You can put that down now. I’ve got it.”
This isn’t just a one-time offer. This is the invitation of your whole life. He’s not asking for perfection—He’s asking for honesty. So today, start there. Name the burdens. Say them out loud. And hand them over to the One who actually knows what to do with them.
Prayer:
Father, help me be honest about my weariness. Give me the courage to admit when I'm exhausted and overwhelmed. Thank you that I don't have to pretend with you. Amen.
