Designed for Joy
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
Have you ever looked at a beautiful painting and noticed how each brushstroke serves a purpose? Similarly, when God created us, He designed us with intention and purpose - for joy, peace, and communion with Him. Our hearts naturally ache when we experience anything less than this divine design. Just like a fish feels out of place on dry land, we feel displaced when surrounded by despair because it contradicts our original blueprint. Understanding this truth helps us recognize that our longing for joy isn't just wishful thinking - it's evidence of our divine design. When we feel broken or lost, it's not because we're defective, but because we're experiencing something we weren't originally created to endure.
Reflection Question
How does understanding that you were designed for joy change your perspective on the difficult seasons in your life?
We were not designed for despair and sorrow. When God made us in his image, we were designed, we were fearfully and wonderfully made by him to experience his goodness, his joy, happiness and bliss. We were designed for that. We were not designed for despair and sorrow.
Prayer
Father, thank You for creating me with purpose and intention. Help me remember that my longing for joy isn't wrong - it's part of Your perfect design. When I feel broken, remind me that this isn't Your ultimate plan for my life. Draw near to me in my brokenness and guide me back to Your joy. Amen.
