Honest Faith That Moves Forward

He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. — Psalm 40:2

Lament is never meant to be the last word. It’s important, it’s necessary, but it’s not where the story ends. God doesn’t lead us through grief, honesty, and community so we can sit in it forever. He meets us in it to help us stand up again. He gives us honest faith so we can keep moving forward.

That doesn’t mean the pain disappears overnight. It doesn’t mean everything gets fixed right away. It means we don’t have to be stuck. Psalm 40 says it like this: “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Honest faith holds two things at once: what’s broken and what’s true. Yes, life hurts sometimes. Yes, it’s okay to grieve. But yes — God is still good. Yes — He is still writing your story. Yes — there’s still purpose in your breath today.

Moving forward doesn’t erase the pain behind you, but it honors the healing work God is doing in you. It says, “I’ve cried, I’ve prayed, I’ve been real with my people, and now it’s time to step into what’s next with God.”

So today, don’t rush yourself. But don’t stay stuck either. Ask God where He’s calling you to stand. Ask Him what step He’s calling you to take next.

Reflection Question
What would it look like for you to move forward today — not by forgetting your pain, but by trusting that God is still writing your story?

Honest faith doesn’t leave you stuck. It helps you stand back up with a heart that’s been shaped by God’s presence and His people.

Prayer
Father, thank You for not leaving me stuck in my grief. Thank You for walking with me through the hard things and helping me stand again. Show me where You’re calling me next. Help me trust that You still have purpose for my life. Let my story, with all its broken pieces, be a story that points back to You. Amen.
