A God Who Moves Toward Us
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8
From beginning to end, the Bible tells the story of a God who doesn’t wait for perfection. He doesn’t demand we climb up to Him. He comes down to us.
In Exodus 21, He steps into a society shaped by broken economics, injustice, and power imbalances. He doesn’t ignore it. He moves toward it. He regulates it. He seeds it with justice. And those seeds would one day grow into the gospel of Jesus Christ—a Savior who entered not just a broken system but a broken world… and a broken cross.
God’s heart has always been to move toward the vulnerable, the outcast, the enslaved, and the sinner. His laws pointed forward. His prophets called it out. And His Son fulfilled every whisper of justice, mercy, protection, and restoration. Jesus didn’t come to create a slightly better version of the world. He came to remake it.
That’s what the whole of Scripture points to—not a sanitized system but a crucified Savior. Not a God waiting on the mountaintop, but one who descends into the valley. He moves toward us so that we can move toward others.
You don’t have to wait until you're “ready” to come to Him. He's already come to you.
Reflection Question
Where have you been waiting to clean up your life before fully turning to God? What would it look like to let Him meet you in that place instead?
God didn’t wait for us to get it right. He moved toward us while we were still a mess. That’s the kind of love that changes everything.
Prayer
God, thank You for stepping into the mess of humanity—and the mess of my life. I don’t deserve it, but You came anyway. Help me to stop hiding behind perfection and instead open the door to Your presence. Meet me where I am, and make me new. Amen.
