Temple Business
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." – Galatians 2:20
It’s easy to think of church as something we “go to” rather than something we “are.” But Scripture flips this idea on its head. As living stones in God’s spiritual house, we aren’t simply attendees of a service; we are His dwelling place on earth. The Old Testament temple was where God’s presence resided, and priests were the only ones with the privilege of entering His presence to minister before Him. Through Christ, that privilege now belongs to every believer.
This truth eliminates the false divide between “sacred” and “secular.” Everything we do is spiritual because everywhere we go, God’s Spirit goes with us. Your workday is spiritual. How you drive in traffic is spiritual. The way you treat your family, friends, and strangers is all “temple business.” When Paul wrote that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), he wasn’t giving a motivational speech—he was declaring reality. God’s presence dwells in you. That changes everything.
Yet many Christians compartmentalize their faith. We worship on Sundays but live as if Christ has little say in our Mondays. We pray before meals but forget His presence in the office, at school, or in conflict. But Jesus didn’t die and rise again so we could have part-time faith; He calls us to full-time worship. Every word you speak, every decision you make, every dollar you spend is an offering. You are His priest, and your entire life is His temple.
Reflection Question
What part of your life have you kept separate from God’s presence, and how would recognizing that area as “temple business” change your choices?
The way you live, the way you speak, and the way you love others is temple business.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me see every part of my life as sacred. Forgive me for treating some areas of my life as if they’re off-limits to You. Teach me to live as a priest in Your temple, offering spiritual sacrifices with every choice I make. Let my actions, my words, and my attitude display that Christ lives in me. Amen.
