A Fortress with a Mission
“Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.” – Acts 18:26
When a husband and wife anchor their marriage in Christ, they don’t simply form a family—they form a fortress. Not a fortress that hides from the world, but one that stands strong in it, advancing God’s purposes together.
This was the legacy of Priscilla and Aquila. Their home wasn’t a retreat from the mission of God—it was the mission field. They opened their doors to teach, disciple, and equip others. They turned hospitality into ministry and marriage into mission. Their unity was not only emotional—it was spiritual.
When Christ is braided into the relationship, something supernatural happens: two individuals become one spiritual force. Together, they resist temptation, fight discouragement, and protect each other’s faith. But they also become a launching pad for kingdom impact—mentoring others, serving in ministry, raising children in faith, and displaying the gospel through their love.
This is why the enemy attacks marriage so fiercely. A divided couple cannot advance the kingdom. But a couple unified under Christ’s authority becomes a threat to darkness itself. When marriage becomes a fortress with a mission, the home transforms into holy ground—where prayer flows naturally, forgiveness comes quickly, and generosity becomes second nature.
Whether you’re married, preparing for marriage, or praying for one, the call remains the same: build something with God at the center. Make your home a place where others find strength, where the Word is taught, and where Christ’s love is experienced tangibly. Because when two people live on mission together, they don’t just build a marriage—they build a movement.
Reflection Question
What would it look like for your home or relationships to become a spiritual fortress that advances God’s kingdom? What specific steps could you take to make your marriage—or your life—more mission-minded?
A threefold cord—husband, wife, and Christ at the center—is not easily broken. Marriage was never meant to be a bunker from the world, but a base for kingdom advance.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of relationships designed for Your glory. Strengthen the bonds of unity between those You’ve joined together. Make our homes places of peace, prayer, and purpose. Help us to see our relationships not as ends in themselves, but as instruments for Your mission. May our love reflect Your gospel and our partnership advance Your kingdom. Amen.
