The Grip That Never Lets Go
"I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand." – John 10:28
We all know the nervous feeling of holding something valuable and fearing we might drop it. A treasured family heirloom, a fragile glass, or even a child’s tiny hand while crossing a busy street. That fear comes from knowing our grip might fail.
Many believers live their spiritual lives with that same fear. They wonder if their mistakes, doubts, or seasons of weakness could cause them to lose their salvation. They replay their failures in their minds and quietly ask, “What if I can’t hold on?”
The truth is, the security of our salvation does not depend on the strength of our grip on Christ. It rests entirely on the strength of His grip on us. Jesus said in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” This is not a statement about our ability to cling to Him, but about His power to hold us.
If salvation could be lost because of our shortcomings, then it would rest on our performance instead of God’s grace. That would mean His promise was uncertain, His power limited, and His redemption incomplete. But Scripture reveals a God whose purposes cannot be thwarted, whose love cannot be broken, and whose work of salvation is not partial but finished.
When Jesus went to the cross, He did not make a down payment on your salvation. He paid in full. He did not take hold of you with the possibility of letting go later. He took hold of you to bring you all the way home. The One who began the good work in you has promised to carry it through to completion. You may stumble, you may falter, but His grip is steady. His strength is unshakable. His hold is forever.
Reflection Question
When you face moments of doubt or weakness, how can you remind yourself that your salvation rests on Christ’s grip rather than your own?
You are not saved by how tightly you hold on to Christ. You are saved because He holds on to you, and He does not let go.
Prayer
Father, thank You for holding me securely in Your hand. I confess that I sometimes fear losing my way or failing You. Help me to rest in the truth that my salvation is not sustained by my strength, but by Yours. Teach me to trust Your grip more than my own. Amen.
