No Longer Strangers
"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone." - Ephesians 2:19-22
Have you ever felt like an outsider? Perhaps in a new school, workplace, or community? That feeling of not belonging can be isolating and painful. Before Christ entered our lives, we were all spiritual outsiders—separated from God and His family. But the beautiful truth of Ephesians 2:19-22 changes everything. Through faith in Jesus, we've been brought near. We've been adopted into God's household. The barriers that once kept us outside have been demolished by Christ's sacrifice.
This transformation isn't just about our relationship with God; it's about our relationships with each other. Those who were once strangers are now family. The differences that used to divide us—cultural backgrounds, social status, past mistakes—no longer define our primary identity. We are now, first and foremost, brothers and sisters in Christ. This new identity isn't something we earned or achieved. It's a gift of grace. And it comes with both privileges and responsibilities. We get to experience the love, security, and belonging of God's family. But we're also called to extend that same welcome to others who are still on the outside looking in.
Today, take a moment to reflect on your journey from outsider to family member. Remember that the same grace that welcomed you is available to everyone you meet.
Reflection Question
How has your identity as a member of God's household changed how you view yourself and others who are different from you?
"In Christ, you and I are not now what we once were."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for bringing me from outsider to family member through Jesus. Help me to live in the reality of this new identity today. Show me how to extend your welcome to those who still feel like strangers. In Jesus' name, amen.
