Divine Timing

"Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires." – Song of Solomon 2:7

We live in a culture that equates waiting with wasting time. When it comes to love, the world tells us that if we’re not pursuing, we’re missing out. But Scripture teaches something radically different — that waiting is not inactivity, but preparation. God’s timing is never random; it’s purposeful. He delays not to punish, but to protect and prepare.

The Song of Solomon offers a poetic but profound warning: don’t awaken love before its time. Why? Because desire without covenant becomes destructive. Love outside of God’s order can burn like fire on the living room floor — it’s still powerful, but now it’s uncontrolled and dangerous. God’s timing ensures that passion finds its place within His perfect design.

Every season of waiting in your life — singleness, distance, delay — is part of His architecture. He is shaping your heart, strengthening your character, and teaching you dependence. Waiting on God means trusting that His "not yet" is still an expression of His love.

The waiting season is not about passivity, but preparation. While you wait, you can build: deepen your prayer life, grow in wisdom, strengthen your relationship with Christ. The right person, at the wrong time, is still the wrong thing. Trust God to awaken love at the moment it can bring life, not destruction.

Reflection Question
What does waiting well look like for you in this season? How can you prepare rather than simply pause?

Don’t light the fire before you have a fireplace. Desire has to be governed by covenant, or it will consume everything in its path.

Prayer
Lord, help me to trust Your perfect timing in all things. When my heart wants to rush ahead, remind me that waiting is an act of faith. Prepare me to love rightly by first teaching me to rest in You. Amen.
