The Root of Our Problem

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned." – Romans 5:12

We don’t just have a sin problem—we have a sin nature. It’s not just that we mess up sometimes. It’s that we’re fundamentally bent away from God from birth. We’re not good people who make mistakes. We’re sinners in need of rescue. That’s offensive in our “you’re enough” culture—but it’s also freeing. Why? Because it means you’re not responsible for saving yourself.

You can’t white-knuckle your way to holiness. You can’t moralize yourself into righteousness. The gospel doesn’t call you to try harder—it calls you to die to yourself and be raised to new life. Until we grasp how deep the root of our problem goes, we won’t truly cherish the depth of God’s grace. Sin isn’t just about doing bad things—it’s about being cut off from the source of life. And only Jesus can reconnect us.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life are you settling for behavior modification when what you really need is heart transformation?

Remember, sin isn’t a mistake to correct—it’s a condition that kills. We don’t need a life coach; we need a Savior.

Prayer:
Lord, I confess that my problem goes deeper than bad choices. I need You to do what I can’t—to make me new. Help me stop pretending I can fix myself, and instead throw myself fully on Your mercy. Change me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
