When Truth Confronts the Noise
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” — Isaiah 40:8
We’re surrounded by noise. Social media, opinions, trends, and shifting cultural values flood our ears and shape our minds more than we often realize. In this whirlwind of competing voices, the temptation is real: to bend Scripture so it fits more comfortably with what the world already approves. But God’s Word isn’t designed to echo the culture—it’s meant to transform it.
Truth doesn’t shift with time. It doesn’t change to match the polls. It confronts. It convicts. It cuts through confusion with clarity. Isaiah says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God endures forever.” That means God's truth isn’t fragile—it’s eternal. It doesn’t need our edits, it needs our obedience.
When we come to Scripture, the question isn't, “How can I make this fit what I already believe?” The question is, “What in me needs to change because of what God has said?” That takes humility. It means acknowledging that some of our cultural assumptions, even our church traditions, might need to be reexamined in the light of God's unchanging Word.
The Bible is not a product of any one culture, so it offends every culture somewhere. That’s actually a sign of its divine origin. If it never confronts us, we might not be listening. Today, let God's Word speak louder than the noise.
Reflection Question
Where are you tempted to soften or sidestep Scripture to avoid tension with the culture around you?
The Bible offends every culture somewhere. That’s one of the ways we know it wasn’t created by any one culture. It's not shaped by us. It's meant to shape us.
Prayer
Lord, help me tune out the noise. Let Your voice be the loudest in my life. When Your Word confronts me, give me the humility to listen and the courage to change. Make me faithful, not fashionable. Root me in truth, not trends. Amen.
