The Source of Our Strength
“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.” – Psalm 86:5
Forgiveness is not a feeling we muster; it’s a miracle we receive. Too often, we approach forgiveness like an act of sheer willpower—gritting our teeth, saying the words, but feeling no release. The truth is, human strength can’t carry the weight of divine love. Real forgiveness flows only from the source Himself—Jesus Christ.
When we try to forgive in our own strength, we inevitably run dry. Our patience thins, our compassion wanes, and bitterness begins to harden our hearts. But when we return to the cross, we remember something vital: before we ever asked, Christ forgave us. His mercy wasn’t conditional—it was complete. That’s the well we draw from when we forgive others.
Think about that for a moment. The same Spirit that empowered Jesus to forgive His executioners lives in you. That means the capacity to forgive doesn’t depend on your strength—it depends on His presence. The power of forgiveness isn’t found in trying harder; it’s found in surrendering deeper. When you stop striving and start abiding, you discover that His love not only heals your heart but empowers you to extend grace to others.
You are not called to manufacture forgiveness; you’re called to channel it. And the more you drink from the well of His mercy, the more naturally His forgiveness will flow through your life.
Reflection Question
Where have you been trying to forgive in your own power instead of drawing strength from Christ’s forgiveness toward you?
“You can’t pour out forgiveness from an empty heart. The cross fills what life drains.”
Prayer
Jesus, remind me today that forgiveness isn’t something I achieve but something I receive. When my love runs dry, refill me with Yours. Let Your Spirit flow through me, empowering me to forgive with the same grace You’ve shown me. Amen.
